JAM Jazz Trio Competes in Princess Cruise Line Contest
 
"Jam" jazz trio is starting to reap the benefits of five years of hard work. The trio includes Jason Simon (age 16), Andre "Dre" Simon (age 14) and Michael Ary (age 18).   "Jam" is an acronym for Jason Andre Michael.

The EOYDC music instructor, convinced the young music students to make a video and introduced them to Princess Cruises’ Sea to Sea "search for terrific trios" contest. As a result, the three young Oakland musicians performed at the December 17, 1998, inauguration of Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Both amateur and professional contestants competed for a 7 day cruise. Celebrity judges for the competition included the Pointer Sisters, who are also Oakland natives and got their start from local organizations and community support.

With the submergence of music departments in Bay Area schools, the Center plays a vital role by providing an outlet for creative activities for youth.
