Where the EOYDC students help prepare students for a bright future!
The East Oakland Youth Development Homework Center offers an after school program whose focus is to enhance our children's academic achievement. The our Homework Center provides students with a quiet, supportive setting in which to reinforce skills and complete homework assignments, and offers supervised access to the Center's computer resources.
The general purpose of the project is to provide an after-school academic assistance program for students, designed to:
- Assist in the promotion of students who have been identified as being at risk of retention
- Improve student grades and attendance
- Promote safe learning environments in after-school settings
- Allow students to be creative in an academic environment
- Allow students to interact with other cultures
- To assist youth with their homework and enhance academic skills.
- To encourage learning in a fun yet productive environment.
- To stress the importance of their role in the team effort.
- To emphasize learning through hard work and the assistance of others.
- Assigned homework.
- Activities that promote mastery of expected grade level skills.
- Additional activities which promote enthusiasm about learning and encourage individual youth in their own talents.
- Using a computer as a resource to research material and learn educational skills.
- Field trips to places that encourage education and the learning process.
