Inspiration To Align and Motivate Others |

As
a teen-ager growing up in Oakland, Calif., Soraya Wright made a point to
participate in youth programs that would guide her future and give her
confidence to succeed. "I know that my good fortune is a result of the
mentoring I received in programs such as Head Start and Upward Bound," says
Soraya, Clorox’s Corporate Risk Manager. Hoping to inspire today’s youth the way mentors influenced her, Soraya epitomizes the Clorox tradition of volunteerism. She serves as a trustee on the board of the East Oakland Youth Development Center, which offers the sorts of programs in which Soraya took part as a youngster. She steps in when needed to assist with general operations of the center. She helps set up and attends with her family many of the special events staged at the center. She positively affects thousands of youngsters who visit the nonprofit center every year. "I do this in remembrance of the past, in appreciation for today and for the children of tomorrow," she says. Soraya is just one of many Clorox people who understands the importance of getting involved in youth and educational activities. They have the spirit of giving ingrained in their corporate culture. They make financial contributions as individuals and as a company (for example, Clorox has donated almost $5 million to the East Oakland Youth Development Center since its founding 25 years ago). They volunteer their hands and minds. They inspire others to do the same.
