Since this is a summer youth leadership program, we felt that it would be appropriate to have youth engaged in all aspects of the program. We have added four new classes: Fashion, Spanish, Dance, and Music. All of the classes listed are taught entirely by youth instructors! Art: (instructors) · Students created murals using paint and water balloons · Students learned how to do urban art using block letters and watercolors · Students used clay to create small pieces of sculpture Computers: (instructors) · Students created newsletters documenting events at EOYDC · Students learned how to take pictures using digital cameras · The12-13 year olds created a slideshow presentation documenting classes and presentations that occurred during the course of the S.C.E.P. Cooking: (instructors) · Students learned about basic kitchen tools and kitchen safety · Students learned to create various types of easy to prepare snacks · Students learned how to cook a family style meal Creative Writing: (instructors) · Students worked on their public speaking skills through role play exercises · Students wrote compositions detailing their experiences in the S.C.E.P. · Students created acrostic poems Dance: (instructors) · Students were involved in daily exercises in order to stay physically fit · Students were taught dances and helped to choreograph dances that were performed at the Parent Night/Talent Show Fashion: (instructors) · Students learned to express themselves though style and dress · Students were able to design and create their own t-shirts Music: (instructors) · Students were exposed to various instruments such as the piano, drums, and steel pans · Students were taught choral music arrangements of popular songs Physical Development: (instructors) · Students learned about team work and cooperation · Students were able to get exercise through participation in various games · Students learned the value and concept of good sportsmanship Spanish: (instructors) · Students learned basic components of conversational Spanish · Students were exposed to numerous vocabulary words in the Spanish language |
