Has anyone ever felt worthless and helpless? Well, that was me in high school. My name is Omega and I am a GED recipient from E.O.Y.D.C. In high school, I was lost, and I could never see myself where I am now. I was always good in school, but I never liked to go. It didn’t matter how smart I was; if I didn’t show up, it didn’t count.

I started high school at Berkeley High then transferred to Oakland Tech, then to Street Academy, and back to Berkeley High. Everyone was fed up with me and I was fed up with myself. Then my best friend told me about E.O.Y.D.C. This program changed my life.

I left Berkeley High at 16, and went to E.O.Y.D.C. I took a few practice tests and was ready to take my GED exam. I found out I wasn’t old enough and I had about a year and a half to wait. That discouraged me very much, and I went back to the streets.

Ms. Anana made sure to keep in touch with me. When I reached the age limit, she made sure I came back. May 16, 2006, I took my test and passed. Now I am working full time, and am looking forward to going to college. I am 18 years old now and I’m finally handling my responsibilities “legit-ly”.

Thank you, E.O.Y.D.C. I love you, Ms. Anana.
