A week before the NFL Draft prospects came to New York City, 10 students from Oakland made a cross-country trip of a lifetime to the Big Apple with Pro Bowl cornerback NNAMDI ASOMUGHA.

Pathway to College TripAsomugha funded and organized the trip – complete with a seven-page itinerary! – to give the students from the East Oakland Youth Development Center and Young Musicians program a unique learning and cultural experience.  The students visited Columbia University, New York University, the Juilliard School of Music, the Apollo Theatre, the Natural History Museum, the Empire State Building and also met and spoke with former President BILL CLINTON.

“Maybe someone’s passion is cars,” said Asomugha, who arranged similar trips for students to Boston and Atlanta the previous two springs.  “Mine is travel and public service.  That’s the reason I started something like this.”

It is having a positive impact on the kids.

“After this trip, I can do anything,” said 16-year old TAYLOR BRANDON. “[Nnamdi] is providing us with a sense that we can go somewhere; we can be something.  He cares.”
