Lexus Champions for Charity – Oakland Post Article

The Champions for Charity is a series of golf tournaments hosted by Lexus dealerships in their communities to help support local charities. Right here in Oakland, Coliseum Lexus has been the lead sponsor of the local Champions for Charity golf tournament since 2004.  This annual event will be held on Monday, September 26th at the Sequoyah Country Club. All proceeds will benefit the East Oakland Center (EOYDC) located on International Boulevard.
The mission of the EOYDC is to equip East ’s youth and young adults with skills, training, and values they need to become responsible citizens and to assume dynamic leadership positions.  To that end, the organization offers a comprehensive program for youth and their families with services in education, counseling, training, physical development, and aesthetics.  EOYDC is well-known and respected for its programs which encompass school tutoring, computer training, GED preparation, culinary arts, sports activities and much more.
As part of its efforts to support the community, Coliseum not only makes an annual donation to the EOYDC, it also key fundraising events such as the Champions for Charity.  Coliseum Lexus owner Ed Fitzpatrick has long been an ardent enthusiast of EOYDC and its achievements. “My hat goes off to Regina Jackson, EOYDC Executive Director, for her relentless dedication to changing the lives of our community’s kids,” says Fitzpatrick, “ and to Rose Lyles, for her hard work coordinating the superb Champions for Charity event.”

A putting contest kicks off the Champions for Charity golf tournament, followed at noon by a Shotgun Start, where all groups of players tee off simultaneously from different holes.  Box lunches are included. Two designated holes have very special prizes in store for anyone lucky (or skilled!) enough to hit a hole in one: a brand new 2012 ES 350 for one hole and a 2012 GX 1-year lease for the other, both courtesy of Coliseum Lexus.  Prizes will also be awarded for tournament bests, such as low gross and low net scores, as well as to the winners of long drive contests for and women.

The tournament is capped off by a Happy Hour and the opportunity to meet Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell, who will be attending the cocktail reception.  Afterwards, enjoy a sumptuous buffet dinner and a live auction where, among other prizes, you could win one out of two spots for amateur golfers in the Champions for Charity National Tournament at Pebble Beach Resorts.

Registration is required to participate in the Champions for Charity tournament.  If you would like to sign-up, please call Rose Lyles at (925) 895-3987.  Participation is limited to a total of 36 foursomes with reservations accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  The cost is $250 per individual; $1,000 per group of four.

The cost of changing a child’s life?  Priceless
