OAKLAND, CA (KGO) —  native and Lakers assistant coach hosted an afternoon of art, wine and music at his home Saturday for a good cause — Pathways To College.

This is part of the East Oakland Development Center, which was founded in 1973, created to prepare students for a smooth and informed transition into life with academic counseling, financial aid, and assistance.

hosted the event with EOYDC Executive Director Regina Jackson.

“The young people have the opportunity to be exposed to things that they never thought imaginable and specifically through the opportunity to go to which is why we’re here for scholarships,” said Jackson.

“Growing up, I spent a lot of hours playing in the gym there and being talked to by counselors and people in the community to try to keep me on the right track. And so I can definitely say that I’m a product of the center and what it does,” said Shaw.
