Oakland Development Center Awards Scholarships and Recognizes Community Leaders at Art, Wine, and Jazz Reception and Fundraiser


OAKLAND, CA June 24, 2013 – Something for Everyone is a private event hosted by Denver Nuggets Head Coach (and EOYDC alumnus) Brian Shaw, dedicated to celebrating the academic distinction of college-bound high school seniors and college students; participants of EOYDC’s Pathway to College program. Additionally, EOYDC’s Champions for  – community leaders who have made significant contributions to the greater Oakland community, and beyond – are honored at this star powered fundraiser. Among previously recognized Champions for  are: Actress Brely Evans (Sparkle), D’wayne Wiggins (Tony, Toni, Tone), and NBA Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard.

About The Pathway to College Program (PTC):

PTC was created to prepare students to make a smooth, uncomplicated, and informed transition into college life. Students are introduced to universities and vocational institutions by way of academic counseling, informational sessions, guest lectures, and college tours – both local and national. PTC tutors students in preparing personal statements, and providing financial aid and scholarship search assistance. PTC also incorporates a rigorous leadership curriculum based in character education. These free services are offered from eighth grade students on up to insure that participants have an academic plan for success. PTC case manages over 400 students from middle school through to doctoral work, if desired. The program’s target audience is young students of color. PTC facilitates internships and transitions into professional careers as well. The 2013 class profile is as follows:

100% accepted to four-year institutions

96% will attend four-year institutions

75% GED students transfer to junior college
