When reflecting back through my childhood memories I could always remember the wonderful years of being apart of the East Oakland Youth Development Center. At a young age, not knowing what to expect from the program, I received a great deal of confidence, involvement and knowledge that assisted me on the path of success. Within the program I remembered the youth leaders that aided me to become a leader and to take advantage of what ever life throws at you. Due to the life changing experiences at the EOYDC, I too became a youth leader in my senior year of high school and passed down the wisdom that was very impactful from my youthful years at the center. It is so rewarding to say that the EOYDC was one of my first jobs, and that it presented the foundation of my skills such as: leadership, self esteem, confidence, empowerment, involvement etc.
I still to this day come by every summer and visit the EOYDC. I am so proud to see the progress and accomplishments of the Center’s success. I often visit the programs that I was involved in such as the: West African Dance class, Art, Music, Computer and Cooking class just to see some familiar faces and once again refresh my memory of the joy of being an EOYDC participant. The Center is the reflection of who I am today and who I will be tomorrow. Thanks to the foundation laid by the EOYDC, I know that I will have prosperity and numerous of opportunities coming my way.
I am currently a sophomore at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta Georgia, and I am majoring in Biology. My future plans are to become a pediatrician, and hopefully own my own practice one day.
Special Thanks to Ms. Regina Jackson and family of the EOYDC.
